2013 Finish: 99th Percentile, Yahoo Fantasy Golf

Next Up is the Honda Classic and the start of the Florida swing.

This week the PGA Tour heads to PGA National for The Honda Classic. The top of the field is extremely strong, with a lot of faces who haven’t played as much this year while the California swing players are tending to take some time off. Many of the international players are teeing it up again, a week after the Match Play, which tends to end early for most folks. The final four from Dove Mountain aren’t really a factor this week, as Rickie Fowler is the only one teeing it up and despite his run in Arizona, we can’t endorse him until he gets a high quality finish at a standard 4-day golf tournament under his belt.

Round 4 Notes
  • Round 3 Update: Tiger Woods played like we always knew he could. Is he back or is this just a blip on the radar screen? Given the large number of players ahead of him, we’ll keep Tiger on the bench this week and save him for future tournaments. Rory continues to play solid golf and heads into round 4 with a 2 stroke lead. Keegan Bradley made a move and is now in the top 5 and within striking distance. McDowell disappointed and will finish way back in the pack.
  • A: Adam Scott disappointed on Saturday, but we’ll give him the final shot on Sunday
  • B: We’ll count on McIlroy and Bradley to finish this off for us and save our 4th Zach Johnson start for later this year given he’s not likely to place top three here.
  • C: McDowell is our survivor from the C Group, so we’ll hope he starts strong and puts together a nice final round.

Can he finally get back on track and post a top 10? We’ll put him on our bench and let Adam Scott take the first few days on his own.

(1) PGA Grand Slam of Golf
(CUT) 2011

Consistent and reliable. We’ll start him every day unless Tiger does something good finally. Other options for the A group include (in order of preference): Henrik Stenson, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, and Lee Westwood
(B) Rory McIlroy (9) Omega Classic

Rory is the hottest player in the world right now, and he’s a former champion with another decent finish in 2009.

UPDATE: Justin Rose pulled out of the Honda Classic on Tuesday morning due to shoulder inflammation (again). We had liked him coming into this tournament, so let’s hope he gets his health together. Hideki is our replacement this week, and we expect some consistent play with an outside chance for his first victory on the PGA Tour this week.
(B) Zach Johnson (3) Humana
(8) Sony Open
(1) Hyundai TOC
(1) NW Mutual
(30) 2008
We’re going to leave Zach on the bench and see if he’s in contention at the end of the weekend. He hasn’t played here much but we’ll see if he can regain his momentum from before his layoff.

We’ll see how Bradley does in the early going and if he can get comfortable here like he was the last two years (4th, 12th). Also consider: Billy Horschel

(59) Joburg Open
(15) Volvo
(6) Nedbank
(1) Alfred Dunhill

(3) HSBC

(9) 2012
(6) 2011
(31) 2010
Graeme hasn’t won in a while, but he’s a solid choice and given his track record at the Honda Classic, we’d prefer him over Sergio. Other to consider include (in order): Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen, Stephen Gallacher, Will MacKenzie, Y.E. Yang, Jamie Donaldson, and Jeff Overton.
