(A1) Rory McIlroy (7) WGC Mexico
(2) BMW SA Open
(9) DP World Tour Champ
(4) WGC HSBC Champions
(27) 2016
(11) 2015

Rory came back strong after the injury and should be fine going forward. There’s no better place to honor the King, and winning his tournament would be a great way to do that. Two decent attempts in the past but no top 10s so far. He’s the #1 course fit and #1 in our power ranking. The only thing you could ask for is a higher finish in his first two attempts, but that’s being a bit needy.

Rickie is back on his game and a 16th in Mexico wasn’t the worst finish. He has played well here in the past with a 3rd place finish in 2013. It’s all systems go for Rickie this week and with Jason Day still seeking to find his game, it may be a Rory/Rickie week for us.

(25) 2010

Defending champion, which can’t hurt though his only decent finish recently was a 5th at Pebble. Hopefully he’ll get his game going again this week but with Rory/Rickie playing well and fitting nicely here, we’ll probably just avoid Day again this week and hope he makes a run mid-season.
(A4) Louis Oosthuizen (48) WGC Mexico
(21) Honda Classic
(5) ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth
(3) Waste Management Open
(9) 2015
(64) 2009

Solid pick who has cooled off recently. Did finish 9th here in 2015 and since he’s not the greatest wind player, it looks rather benign the first three days (6-10mph) so that could give him the window he needs. Still, he’s not a top choice in Group A this week.

Graeme is playing solid golf right now and has had mild success here in the past – though spotty. Lighter winds should help his cause and he did finish last week’s event strong after a weak start to the tournament. He’s not a good Y! pick though.
Other options include: (A6) Branden Grace, (A7) Marc Leishman, and (A8) Kevin Streelman.

(B1) Hideki Matsuyama (25) WGC Mexico
MC Genesis Open
(1) Waste Management Open
(33) Farmers Insurance Open
(6) 2016
(21) 2015

Hideki exited the Genesis early and then had a slight rebound in Mexico but hasn’t looked like the golfer from prior weeks. Another week off should do him well so hopefully he’s rested and ready to go at a course where he’s had some nice success with a 21st place finish his first year and 6th place finish last year. He’s such a solid player that we expect him to get back to solid golf soon and could surprise this week. This is a course where he should excel.

MC 2014

(3) 2011
MC 2010
This is another course where Justin plays well with 3 top 10s and 4 top 15s since 2009. Strong course fit. This is probably a week he should rebound back into the top 15. We may need to play a bit conservative with Rose this week as we’ve used him 4 times already.
(B3) Paul Casey (16) WGC Mexico
(11) Honda Classic
(39) Genesis Open
(28) Farmers Insurance Open
(9) 2016
MC 2015
(60) 2014

Paul has been playing a little better since getting back to Florida. His 9th place finish last year was a sign we were hoping for. His #3 course fit suggests he’s ready to continue that success here. The one draw back is that he hasn’t been surfing the top of the leaderboard but swimming in the muddled pack and back dooring some top 20s. We’d like to see that change this week.
(B4) Brandt Snedeker (7) WGC Mexico
MC Genesis Open
(4) Pebble Beach
(9) Farmers Insurance Open
(36) 2016
(13) 2015
(8) 2014
MC 2013
(63) 2012
MC 2011
Sneds caught fire in the final three rounds at the WGC Mexico and that momentum could carry over after a little break. Three top 10s in his last 4 and a reasonable track record here if you ignore 2011-2013. He’s right there with Molinari as someone who could get hot and notch another victory. We’ll reevaluate depending on tee times and how that works out. Note: our cheat sheets contain a longer course history record (10 events), so you’ll see a few more good finishes by Snedeker there.
(B5) Francesco Molinari (20) WGC Mexico
(14) Honda Classic
MC Genesis Open
(14) Farmers Insurance Open
(9) 2016
(17) 2015
(5) 2014
(34) 2013

For whatever reason, Molinari has played well here in the past. He’s been playing above average recently and only sports a #53 course fit, but it’s hard to ignore three straight top 20s including 2 top 10s and a 5th place finish. Hopefully the memories are fond and he repeats this level of success this week. We’re not sold yet, but we’re interested.
(B6) Adam Hadwin (1) Valspar Champ
(34) Genesis Open
(39) Pebble Beach
(12) Waste Management Open
(36) 2016

Coming off his first career victory last week, what will be his reaction? The field strengthens, which probably means a return to mid 30th place finishes, especially given the distractions involved with your first win and your upcoming wedding. Played decently here last year but we’ll probably avoid him this week. Wish we had him last week. Sunday’s victory ate into all the progress we had made the first three days.
(B7) Kevin Kisner (11) WGC Mexico
(48) Honda Classic
(10) Pebble Beach
(25) CareerBuilder Challenge
MC 2016
(49) 2015

Kisner is playing well and sports a top 20 course fit. The wind isn’t his friend but it’s not going to be blowing that hard, so he could have another nice week. We would ask for a better track record here to consider him in one of our four spots.
Other options include: (B8) Ryan Moore, (B9) Lucas Glover, and (B10) Webb Simpson.

Ignoring the Mexican WD, he has been rock solid the past 6 months. He’s also figured out the Bay Hill course over time with the last 5 tries at 15, 8, 5, 2, 3. That’s a track record you can get behind. To continue his run, he’ll need to hit the range and get those irons back on track. He put on a putting show last week but was loose on his iron play. Not a better option in Group C.
(C2) Tyrrell Hatton (10) WGC Mexico
(4) Honda Classic
(3) Omega Dubai Desert Classic
(13) Abu Dhabi HSBC

2nd best recent history with nothing worse than a 25th in his last 6 months. He’s been playing well on courses where he doesn?t have any history which is very impressive. Plus he sports a top 40 course fit this week.
(C3) Tommy Fleetwood (2) WGC Mexico
(12) Maybank Champ
MC Omega Dubai Desert Classic
MC Qatar Masters

Fleetwood nearly won in Mexico, but like Hatton, he doesn’t have any history here. It’s hard not to like him, but Hatton has been more consistent recently so we’ll probably lean there.
(C4) Martin Kaymer (23) WGC Mexico
(4) Honda Classic
(23) Omega Dubai Desert Classic
(48) Qatar Masters

Another good option. He’s been a cut maker as well. We’ll have to see how the tee times shake out but Hatton may be preferred. Good course fit at #18 which may make him a virtual tie with Fleetwood.
(C5) Graham DeLaet (22) Valspar Champ
(10) Honda Classic
(17) Genesis Open
(9) Waste Management Open
MC 2015
(50) 2013

Poor track record here though his course fit is decent and he’s playing well – but had to pull it together on Sunday this past week to help our DK team get in the money (it worked but we’d have liked to see him in contention).
Other options include: (C6) Anirban Lahiri, (C7) Thomas Pieters, and (C8) Matthew Fitzpatrick.
