Posts for our RBC Canadian Open Golf Coverage:

RBC Canadian Open

Previous RBC Canadian Open champions include: Brandt Snedeker (2013), Scott Piercy (2012), Sean O’Hair (2011), Carl Pettersson (2010), Nathan Green (2009), Chez Reavie (2008), Jim Furyk (2007, 2006), Mark Calcavecchia (2005), and Vijay Singh (2004). Royal Montreal Golf Club will host the RBC Canadian Open for the 9th time starting in 1904, as the Canadian Open is like the U.S. Open in the rotation of various golf courses in a pretty random fashion over the last 110 years. Royal Montreal Golf Club (Blue) is a par 70, 7,200+ yard test with Scott Verplank and Steve Jones as the two most recent Canadian Open champions at this venue.

(A) Matt Kuchar (54) British Open
(31) Travelers
(12) U.S. Open
(15) Memorial
(2) 2013
(34) 2012
(MC) 2011
(4) 2010
Matt has trailed off recently as the big events have come rolling through, essentially a non-factor at the U.S. and British Opens. However, he’s great at these more normal tour stops and should get a top 20 this coming week at Royal Montreal. Note that the course changes every year on a pseudo-rotation, so the tournament hasn’t been played at Royal Montreal in over a decade.
(A) Brandt Snedeker (58) British Open
(21) Quicken
(11) Travelers
(9) U.S. Open
(1) 2013
(34) 2012
(MC) 2010
(5) 2009
Snedeker wishes that he was defending at the same course as last year (Glen Abbey) but he’ll just have to trust the game he found over the past month or two. Brandt has got his groove back. Others to consider: #3 Luke Donald, #4 Brian Davis, #5 John Merrick, #6 Kyle Stanley – slim pickings in Group A this week.
(B) Jim Furyk (4) British Open
(12) U.S. Open
(20) Memorial
(51) Colonial
(9) 2013
(MC) 2012
(34) 2011
Jim has cut down on his schedule over the summer, focusing on the majors and other big events, but good British and U.S. Open performances show his strategy is working. Will he go the way of Steve Stricker eventually?
(B) Dustin Johnson (12) British Open
(31) Travelers
(4) U.S. Open
(24) St. Jude
(2) 2013
Dustin has definitely raised his game during the last few majors, but outside of that, he’s been just alright. We have one Dustin Johnson start left, so we may not start him here, but we decided to make these projections as if you could choose from anyone on the list (regardless of personal usage). That should benefit the fantasy player much more than leaving off quality players because we don’t have starts left. If we don’t have someone in our lineup, they won’t show up in our daily picks.
(B) Hunter Mahan (32) British Open
(24) Quicken
(MC) Travelers
(MC) U.S. Open
(MC) 2013
(48) 2012
(34) 2011
(17) 2010
Getting progressively worse at the Canadian Open but has made the cut the past two tournaments including the British. He’s always a threat to contend, especially with weaker fields.
(B) Jerry Kelly (3) John Deere
(31) Travelers
(65) St. Jude
(38) Colonial
(61) 2012
(34) 2011
(MC) 2010
(5) 2009
4 straight made cuts with a 3rd place at the John Deere make him a decent 4th Group B starter this week. It’s slim pickings here, but here are others to consider: #5 Ben Crane, #6 William McGirt, #7 Johnson Wagner, #8 Robert Garrigus, #9 David Hearn, #10 David Lingmerth
(C) Graeme McDowell (9) British Open
(1) Open de France
(5) Irish Open
(28) U.S. Open
(MC) 2013
Playing superbly lately and last year’s missed cut shouldn’t factor into this year’s tournament. Play the hot hand.
(C) Charl Schwartzel (7) British Open
(MC) U.S. Open
(8) Memorial
(MC) BMW PGA
(28) 2013
(42) 2012
(9) 2011
Played well the past three years following the Open Championship. Volatile outcomes so far this year, but coming off a good British Open where he putted well. Others to consider: #3 Charley Hoffman, #4 Carl Pettersson, #5 Bud Cauley, #6 Chad Campbell, #7 Aaron Baddeley, #8 Michael Putnam, #9 Troy Merritt, #10 Tim Clark
