(A1) Ryan Palmer (22) HSBC
(8) BMW Masters
(14) Dunhill Links
(7) Tour Champ.
(8) 2014
(66) 2013
MC 2012
(52) 2011
(1) 2010
Ryan is our A1 player this week. He’s won here before, plays well in the wind, and comes in hot after a few overseas events that he performed quite well in.
(A2) Webb Simpson (41) McGladrey
(4) Shriners Hospitals
(23) Tour Champ.
(53) BMW PGA
(20) 2013
(38) 2012
(46) 2011
MC 2010

4th at Shriners and improving each of his last four times to Waialae. It’s been a long layoff but he seems excited and tends to play well early in the year.
(A3) Seung-Yul Noh (11) TOC
(39) CIMB
(23) BMW PGA
(9) Deutsche Bank
(61) 2014
(66) 2012

Noh’s making cuts and playing quite well, though he has a poor track record at the Sony. We have a suspicion he’ll do well this week.
(A4) Luke Donald (3) Nedbank
(26) DP World Tour
(32) Turkish Airlines
(41) HSBC
MC 2010

Pick Luke if you like to look at the most recent event. Pick Noh if you like the consistency. Pick Simpson if you like the course track record, though it isn’t great the past 5 years. Donald and Howell are quite similar in our minds, so if Howell can play well here, so can Donald.

(B1) Jason Day (3) TOC
(5) Hero
(4) Tour Champ.
(67) BMW PGA
(20) 2011
(64) 2010

Jason Day put together a great round on Monday at the TOC, though historically, Waialae hasn’t been his best track. He’s top of our power rankings but there is no clear favorite this week. We’ll put him in our lineup but avoid starting him unless he’s at the top of the leaderboard later in the week.
(B2) Jimmy Walker (2) TOC
(15) Hero
(35) HSBC
(4) Shriners Hospitals
(1) 2014
(26) 2013
MC 2012
(4) 2011
MC 2010
We love both Reed and Walker in the classic Sudden Death Battle of the Texans, but he had his chances and couldn’t quite take full advantage of them. His game is in good enough shape to defend this week – just needed to shake the nerves on the last 5 holes on Monday.
(B3) Zach Johnson (7) TOC
(8) Hero
(MC) McGladrey
(21) Tour Champ.
(8) 2014
MC 2013
(54) 2012
MC 2011
(12) 2010
Johnson had one bad round at the TOC, which cost him dearly, but his attitude is good and he’s playing well. Two top 15s in the past 5 years.
(B4) Chris Kirk (14) TOC
(16) Hero
(14) HSBC
(48) BMW Masters
(2) 2014
(5) 2013
(38) 2012
(30) 2011

Course record on Monday at the TOC – where did that come from? He was streaky this past week, but given his 5th in 2013 and 2nd in 2014, we need to have him in our lineup.
(B5) Hideki Matsuyama (3) TOC
(13) Hero
(41) HSBC
(21) CIMB
MC 2013
MC 2012
MC 2011

Three MCs at Sony previously, but played well at the TOC. His putting looked a bit spotty, so we doubt he’ll make the leap to victory this week either. However, the McIlroy/Reed/Matsuyama/Spieth show has arrived. Hopefully they’ll keep things interesting for the next few decades.
(B6) Matt Kuchar (17) TOC
(8) Hero
(22) McGladrey
(21) Frys.com Open
(8) 2014
(5) 2013
(5) 2011
MC 2010

Normally we would start Kuchar this week, but we’re going to use our “Kuchar Fantasy Profile” which tells us that this is only his 20th best event on the schedule. That’s crazy! We’ll either put him on our bench or just leave him off this week.

(C1) Russell Henley (3) TOC
(35) HSBC
(4) McGladrey
(12) Tour Champ.
(51) 2014
(1) 2013

Henley just loves Hawaii and we like his fighting attitude. He and Patrick Reed are similar in that vein. Given he won here in 2013, he’ll be in our lineup this week.
(C2) Sang-Moon Bae (6) TOC
(5) CIMB
(MC) Shriners Hospitals
(1) Frys.com Open
(32) 2014
(58) 2013
(29) 2012

Three top 6s in his last four. It’s hard to keep him out of your lineup, although Brendon Todd vs. Sang-Moon Bae is our question of the week this week (fantasy analysis in our newsletter).
(C3) Brendon Todd (8) TOC
(12) Nedbank
(60) HSBC
(48) McGladrey
(20) 2014
(13) 2012

It’s hard to leave him off the team this week, but given Bae and Henley’s play over the past four events (five total top 10s), it’s hard to do otherwise.
(C4) Brendon de Jonge (15) Turkish Airlines
(13) CIMB
(2) McGladrey
(42) Shriners Hospitals
(51) 2014
(54) 2013
(10) 2012
(20) 2011
MC 2010
Decent option if you’re looking for someone playing well and who has a lot of experience at the Sony.
